Episode 1 (Ashes On My Pillow):
We meet Jillian and Tom who are newlyweds who move into a new house to begin their lives together. The basement of the house seems to be just another basement until a door suddenly appears that they can't seem to open. Tom's best friend, Jason, uses a gun to get the door open which leads to stairs and another door that not even the bullets will open.

During a double date, Tom begins telling the story of Jillian's imaginary friend, Pretzel Jack, a contortionist clown who kept her company when her dad wasn't around.

One day, Tom and Jillian go shopping and she catches him talking to a woman who appears to be angry with him. She confronts Tom but he gets defensive and they argue. She attempts to find out what's going on and follows Tom one day to find him going into a woman's house. She drives away and goes to see his friend Jason.

Jillian asks Jason if Tom is cheating on her and he begins to accuse her of things and saying that she thinks everyone is going to be like her father. They begin to yell and that's when Pretzel Jack appears and stabs Jason to death. Jillian screams at him to stop and he does, standing and walking out of the room leaving her there with the body.

Episode 2 (Where Did You Sleep Last Night)
*Greg is in the beginning of this episode so I'm just going to focus on that*

The episode opens with Jillian and Tom standing in the room with Jason's dead body and Jillian appears to be in a daze as the officers question her. This is when the camera pans to Det. McPhillips, who asks Jillian why she was at Tom's house in the first place. He seems very skeptical when she tells him that they were friends. He points at Tom and says something along the lines of "I knew you two were friends but I didn't think you two were" (pointing at Jillian).

They question her a bit more, wondering why this killer murdered Jason but spared her. Tom steps in and tells them that she's had enough and that they're going home.

At the funeral, we see Det. McPhillips and his partner standing off to the side and as the camera focuses on Jillian you can see Det. McPhillips eyeing her just out of focus.

Episode 3 (Love Hurts)

*Once again, Greg only appears in the beginning of this episode*

Episode 2 ended with Tom being attacked by Pretzel Jack while he was practicing his "floating meditation". The struggle continues and Tom is stabbed in the chest and is only able to get away when someone shoots Pretzel Jack. As he is escaping in the car, another car hits him and he ends up in the hospital.

In the hospital, Tom and Jillian are being questioned by Det. McPhillips and his partner again who are both very suspicious of the fact that Pretzel Jack is only going after people who are fond of Jillian but not Jillian herself. Det. McPhillips seems to enjoy bringing up the fact that the woman who Tom was going to for this "floating meditation" was actually a doula and didn't advertise her meditation services anywhere. He calls Pretzel Jack a Dr. Seuss character gone wrong.

(I'm hoping the next few episodes have more Greg. I know he isn't who the story is about but I know that's who we're all here for lol. The show is very, very good though! I promise!).

At the end of the episode 3, Ian (Jill and Tom's neighbor) is teaching Jillian how to control Pretzel Jack and it ends with them hugging while Tom goes to answer the door

There is a flashback and we see how Jillian first created Pretzel Jack. She hugs him and he eventually lets go and curls up in a corner to rest. Jillian and Ian head back upstairs only to find that the person at the door was Sarah Winters, the woman Tom had slept with and allegedly had a child with. Jillian becomes angry, waking Pretzel Jack and he tries to escape through the door which she holds shut along with Ian. They hear glass shatter and realize that Jack has gotten out through the window.

Jack crawls over to where Tom and Sarah are arguing, stabs Sarah then goes after Tom. The camera cuts to a phone that someone used to call 911.

Tom and Sarah run to a school to hide and Det. McPhillips and his partner are seen pulling up to the house, guns drawn.

Tom and Sarah reach the school but Pretzel Jack is right behind. They hide out in the basement and accidentally knock over something, signaling Jack. Thinking quickly, Tom throws a ball to distract Jack and he goes running one way while Tom and Sarah run the other way. Its here that he finds out that Sarah's son isn't his. He tells Sarah to stay put and quietly sneaks away only to have Pretzel Jack run at him at full speed when he thought he got away.

Jillian and Ian make it to the school and Jillian hears shouting down below. She looks through the windows to see that Pretzel Jack is drowning Tom. She begins to panic but Ian tells her to calm down and focus on him. Holding her hands, he tells her to bring all the strength in her body to the palm of her hands and to squeeze. He tells her this is how to get rid of Pretzel Jack and that it will hurt but it's the only way. It works and Sarah leads Tom away.

Sarah is in the hospital bed and asks the men if they could leave her and Jillian alone to talk. Sarah reveals that the baby isn't Tom's but he wanted it to be. Tom and Ian are shown standing in the hall and eventually Tom walks away. Jillian comes out of the room and asks Ian if he could drive her. They come to a stop right below a sign that features her father. She tells Ian that she can't go home right now and he takes her to his family summer home which seems familiar to Jillian.

Back at the hospital, Tom brings Sarah a cup of coffee and she tells him that her husband will be there soon so he leaves only to be stopped by Det. McPhillips and his partner. They ask him where he's going and where Jillian is. They ask if he's covering for her.

Ian promises to show Jillian how to control her feelings in case anything happens again. He tells her to get some rest and hears her phone buzz. All the messages are from her father.

At home, Tom's phone also has a message from Jillian's father saying that he needs to speak to her about their family. Tom rushes to the motel her father is staying in.

There is a knock on the father's door and when he answers, Ian is on the other side and says "not the child you were expecting, dad?" So we find out that Ian and Jillian both have the same ability because they are related. The father upsets Ian and causes him to make a door from which his imaginary friend, Tall Man, comes out of and kills the father. He throws the body in the tub and Ian says "we have a lot of cleaning up to do" and Tall Man hugs him.

Tom arrives at the motel to find Ian throwing luggage into the trunk of a SUV. He waits until Ian drives away to approach the door and knock. There is no answer so he breaks down the door only to find an empty room. Ian is seen leaving a diner and stuffing food into his mouth like he hasn't eaten in days.

In the morning, Jillian wakes up to Ian bringing her some tea and they kiss. She thanks him and he smiles saying that he made it "just for her".

Episode 5 (You Belong To Me)

The episode opens with Ian trying to teach Jillian how to make doors and control what comes out of them. He tells her to make a bunny but it comes out deformed and dies shortly after it emerges. Ian starts to make breakfast and Jillian finds her phone broken and dead and says she remembers leaving it in her purse. She tells Ian she needs some air and while she's out there she hears a noise. Tall Man (Ian's creation) is watching her but quickly moves away when she turns to look. She searches the perimeter of the house but finds nothing.

Inside, she goes through a few things and finds a box which contains a stuffed dog that she carried around as a child. We get the sense that she's starting to put things together and Ian calls to her to tell her that breakfast is ready.

Tom gets home and Jill's dog runs up to him. He spots another dog outside and let's her dog out only to have it run to Ian's house. The door is unlocked so he goes inside and begins searching. In his search he finds animal carcasses and pictures of Ian and his family and Jill with her family. There are tons of pictures of Jill when she was young which only makes Tom more suspicious of Ian.

Jill and Ian are eating and she asks him about his mom. He says that she loved him, she didn't understand him, but she loved him. He also tells her that she passed away. Jill tells him she wants to go home and he takes her but when they get there, they find Tom with some of the things he found in his search. He questions Ian but Jill reveals that she knows who Ian is (he's her brother). Ian then tells her that he "did something big" and proceeds to take her to the garage to show her their father's dead body along with a bunch of dogs that have begun to feed on the body. Jill calls the police and Tall Man appears from around the corner but Ian shakes his head no and he goes away again. Det. McPhillips and his partner come to take Ian away. The detective questions him and Ian confesses to all the murders while staring at Jillian the entire time. They take him away.

Tom and Jillian make love and while they do she somehow makes another door appear. Behind the door is a sick and deformed baby. When Tom tries to pick it up, he hurts it so Jillian picks it up and explains to him that its their baby but Tom wants nothing to do with it so she tells him to leave. She holds the baby until it dies in her arms.

The next scene shows the detectives driving with Ian in the back seat. They get stuck behind a school bus and begin discussing Ian--whether he's a serial killer, mass murderer, or whatnot. They see Tall Man approaching and begin to joke about how ugly he is. They don't realize that he's hiding towards their car until its too late. Tall Man cuts the partners arm with a power saw and Det. McPhillips reacts by opening the door and trying to get away. Unfortunately, Tall Man gets to him and nearly decapitates him with the power saw then goes after his partner. Ian thanks him then walks back to his home.

While Jillian is still upstairs with their "baby", Tom goes outside only to find Ian there covered in blood. When Tom turns back to the house, he notices that Ian has made another door with another one of his creations behind it. Tom sees a cop coming out of his house and shouts to him that the guy they're looking for is right there. Ian warns him not  to do that and that whatever happens to the cop is his fault. The officer draws his gun on Ian but Tall Man appears from behind the house and kills him.

Jillian makes her way outside after the baby dies and notices the door. Tom is nowhere to be found and when she walks over to the officer's dead body there is a message written in blood for her that says "Meet me in the ghost neighborhood" which is one of the neighborhoods that her dad erected.

Tom is unconscious and being dragged through one of the houses in the 'ghost neighborhood' by Tall Boy (I called him Tall Man in the last few reviews. Sorry!). He wakes up to Ian eating food. Ian tells him that he will never connect with Jill the way he can and that he won't live long enough to be with her again anyway. Ian appears to be in pain and Tom takes advantage, running away while Ian is comforting himself. Here we see that not only Tall Boy is around but Ian has also created more creatures to go after Tom.

Later that day, Jillian is seen pulling up but as she gets out the car, she is stopped by security and questions him about whether or not he's seen anyone. The security guard notices that they're being surrounded by a group of Ian's creations but they're only after him. Jillian runs as the creatures attack and kill the man. She hides behind a mound of dirt and spots Tall Boy with his reciprocating saw. There is a knock on one of the doors from inside the house and she sees who she believes is Tom.

Inside the house, Tom kisses her and tells her everything will be okay. She tells him that they won't be able to defeat Ian and his creations alone and that she needs to bring Pretzel Jack back. She tries but is unsuccessful and Tom doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He tells her that he just wants to see what it feels like to be alone with her. He kisses her again and this time she digs her fingers into his hand and it is revealed that he is a 'Tom' that Ian created. She runs from him and he chases her. She eventually kills the fake Tom and is approached by the real Tom. She is suspicious at first but Tom cuts into his hand to show her that he bleeds.

They hide out and try to get away the next day but as they're running she senses Ian and tells Tom that something isn't right. Ian comes out and goes on and on about how he knew she could feel him and that she will never be connected to Tom that way. Tall Boy walks out and Ian sends him to chase them. They hide in a house where they talk and Jillian tells Tom that she needs to bring Pretzel Jack back in order to save them. Tom buys Jillian some time by distracting and confusing Tall Boy. Pretzel Jack and Tall Boy fight as Tom and Jillian watch. Pretzel Jack 'kills' Tall Boy and they run downstairs. Tom tells Jillian that there is no way the three of them can defeat all of Ian's creations. Jack motions to a knife and Jillian knows she has to kill Ian in order to stop it all.

They leave the house and see Ian running. He brings Tall Boy back to life. They follow him as he goes into another home and hides out. They search all the rooms and Jillian finds a room with a carcass of a creation that looks just like her. Ian is hidden inside the last room she searches surrounded by a bunch of doors he created. He is weak but still manages to stand and move closer to her. Pretzel Jack can feel Jillian's distress as Ian grabs her but as he goes to help her, Tall Boy appears and cuts him in half. Tom comes out of the room he was searching and finds Tall Boy standing in the way. He runs around him and shuts the door to the room, trapping himself, Jillian and Ian inside. Ian has Tall Boy use the saw to cut through the door and eventually Jillian stabs him but he still doesn't stop, holding her hand in place so that she can't pull the knife back out. Tom comes from behind her and helps her pull the knife out so she can stab Ian again. Tall Boy makes it through the door only to have Jillian push Tom out of the way. Tall Boy ends up stabbing Ian and killing him. One by one all the doors disappear and his creations collapse.

We jump ahead and see Tom and Jillian in bed together. We can hear a baby cry and Jillian gets up to check on her. She quiets the baby then goes back to bed where she tells Tom she loves him and goes back to sleep.

The episode ends with the baby standing in the crib and whining as the lights flicker. A door appears and opens a crack before it cuts to the credits.

Thank you Cassie for taking time to write in depth reviews for each ep of Channel Zero: The Dream Door. You're a superstar!

Such a creepy show, & I found it hard / uncomfortable to watch at times.Det McPhillips is an interesting character, who I'd like to have seen more of, but the story is not about him. As always, Greg does a terrific job with the time he has.
