Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas) is an ER doctor by day & an angel of mercy by night. She's also a mother of 2 girls, and has an unemployed ex husband to support. Trying to juggle her career & parental responsibilities, whilst maintaining the secrecy of her 'other life' is not an easy task. Unfortunately, things are about to get a lot more difficult for Mary.
Ep. 1 Bloody Mary
To begin, we meet Troy (Adrian Holmes) A terminally ill man who, with the help of Mary & Des, is about to end his own life.
Things don't go to plan however & they are forced to take desperate measures.
As the episode unfolds, we learn that Mary's partner Des, (Richard Short) is an former plastic surgeon. It seems drug addiction may have cost him his license & though he no longer uses, he maintains contact with his dealer.
Enter Grady (Greg Bryk) An outwardly charming & eloquent man. It is clear, however, that underneath the suave exterior, lurks a man you do not want to mess with......EVER!
Des visits Grady to obtain more of the drugs needed for the mercy killings. Though the two are cordial, there's a definate undercurrent to the conversation.
To me, it felt like Grady was 'playing' with Des. A bit like a cat 'toys' with a mouse!
Nurse Annie (Grace Lynn Kung) presents Dr Harris with a couple of new 'end of life' cases, which leads to Mary & Des meeting with cancer patient Joel (Jay Ryan) Joel tells them he wants to 'die faster' & they discuss his possible options 'hypothetically'.
A potentially fatal accident, along with growing feelings for Joel, further complicate matters for Mary, but little does she know, her problems are only just begining!
As events take an unexpected twist, we (the audience) discover that Marys secret is not so secret after all !!! The authorities, led by Det. Gaines (Lyriq Bent) are currently investigating Dr Mary Harris.
